1930's Fashion Illustration
These beautiful illustrations were shown to me by a family friend who was related to the lady in the photo, she bought round this big portfolio bursting with these gorgeous fashion drawings and it really was like finding some lost treasures! The lady in the photo above is Ethel and she was about 18/19 in this photo. She did these illustrations at art school in the early thirties and I think they have such a lovely quality about them that as well as being really beautifully illustrated and conceptualised say a lot about the time they were drawn too. Lovely!

Art Club Summer Exhibition 2010
This weekend I attended the Art Club Summer Exhibition in Derby, opened by the Queen (as you can see above). The exhibition shows the whole years work of the Saturday morning art club, of children who's ages range from 4-13. In the morning we did an illustration project before all the parents came to view the work. The morning ended with an awards ceremony in which I got to present the prestigious Art Club Cup for outstanding artistic achievement.
I made a concertina book of 26 blank pages, each with a letter of the alphabet. The children had to make up an imaginary name for an animal and then draw it on the page, we had some brilliant results!

Birthday Fun!
It was my birthday yesterday and I thought I'd post these beautiful flowers I had from my family and the amazingly sparkly cakes my mum made, gorgeous! (and they tasted pretty good too!). The flowers came in this great green box complete with ribbon, you can find their flowers here...
the bouquet had English garden roses and fresh herbs so it smells amazing!

Eighth Time Lucky?
The news stories regarding Paul the psychic octopus have amused me no end. He has successfully predicted the outcome of all of Germany's matches this World Cup and have inspired some of the best news headlines and captions I've seen! One article read "Psychic Octopus Unfazed by Death Threats' and told of a potential 'paella threat'. Anyway it has inspired and made us laugh a great deal in the studio so above is my response and click here to see Bex's! Now we have to wait and see if he's right for the final....

Mostyn Gallery / Llandudno
Managed to pop into the recently opened Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno on our way to Anglesey. The building itself inside is beautiful and the space really great. The exhibition was 'We have the Mirrors, We have the Plans' and is a look at whether art reflects society today amongst other things. Click here to see the rest of the exhibition photos.

Bore da!
Last week Tom and I went to Wales for a short break and managed to cram in two galleries! We stayed for a night in the small town of Ruthin and visited the craft centre there, which apart from it's cool building had some great open studios.
The weather was great for three days out of four so we spent a lot of time on the beach (albeit wrapped up well- it's still Wales and extremely breezy!). The forest and beach in Newborough were truly beautiful...

Lovely Louis
The latest Louis Vuitton window in Manchester, is it wrong to love the window illustrations more than the bags?! It reminded me of a window we did at Firecatcher a while ago for our shop at the time...
Tea party window!
